Travelling Internationally and Meeting CAROLINA Herrera
I went to meet my all-time favorite fashion icon, Carolina Herrera, in NYC.
Travelling internationally has a certain jet set “ring” to it and I get teased by my friends and family that I HAVE to go to London or Milan or Paris again . .. I am extremely blessed and lucky and have worked hard to create an international business for Genie. And it’s certainly more interesting to go to Milan than to Minnesota (sorry my Minnesota friends). However, most of the “glamorous” travelling includes a lot of really early mornings, delayed flights, jet lag, appliances that don’t work or get fried, expensive and unreliable cell phone service and every now and then questionable hotels. All of these hurdles while trying to represent our brand well (meaning looking good), being coherent in meetings, sparkling on camera, staying healthy and having a personal life at the same time.
However despite my moaning and groaning, every now and then a trip turns into something magical—a sunrise and sushi breakfast at the Tsukiji market in Tokyo, pizza in an Italian piazza with my sister and her husband, meeting Joan Rivers in the QVC green room, and this year meeting my all-time favorite fashion icon, Carolina Herrera. I am a lucky, lucky girl and I thank God for my incredibly interesting life I never would have imagined by myself.
So back to Carolina Herrera. Several weeks ago, I was invited to a private event at the Carolina Herrera flagship store on Fifth Avenue in NYC. The event included Carolina Herrera herself as well as Nina Garcia. A friend from college who now lives in New York was able to join me for lunch and an afternoon of shoe shopping at Begdorf Goodmans and THEN the evening with Carolina Herrera. I was so excited I literally couldn’t sleep! I was so impressed not only with Ms. Herrera’s innate style and but also her incredible graciousness. It’s always wonderful when someone you adore turns out to be as lovely as you hoped. Meeting Nina Garcia was also an incredible thrill. First of all, she has the most gorgeous skin and hair!!! (of course that’s what I look at first being in this business) AND she is incredibly nice! I could go on and on about both of these women but I one of the things I am most impressed with is that they have incredible talent, amazing careers AND successfully balance their family lives as well. Brava to them both!
Speaking of travelling, I’m excited to spend New Year’s Eve with our QVC Italy friends and families! We have the New Year’s Day TSV at QVC Italy so I will be popping open a bottle of Prosecco at Midnight and bringing in the New Year in Italy. I can’t think of a better way to begin 2014!
Much love to you all!
