Cold Wet Snow = Dry Itchy Skin
Rescue your skin . . . Here’s How!
To say this winter has been crazy and atypical would be an understatement. California’s been hit with cold temps and rain . . . the east coast has been unseasonably warm and then hit with massive snow and the “in-between” states (I can say that because I’m from Texas) have had a little bit of everything in-between!
I don’t know about you but my skin doesn’t know what to do! So . . . here’s the secret-- it’s not really the weather that is affecting your skin —it’s the forced hot air inside your home and office that is sucking the life out of your skin!
Here’s how to SOS (Save our Skin) . . .
1) Before you hop in the shower, dry brush your skin. Dump your body scrub for now—save it for April. Dry brushing (very gently) will gently (again gently) exfoliate your skin so your body lotion will absorb better. You want to brush UP your body towards your heart—always towards your heart. (Earth Therapeutics back brush is great and inexpensive) You can get it here: Earth Therapeautics Back Brush
2) Now that you’re in the shower—turn down that hot water! Keep the water tepid so it won’t break down your skin’s natural barrier to strip and dry out your skin. While you’re in the shower—switch from a shower gel to a milky/creamy cleanser.
Here are some ideas:
Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash ($8)
Cetaphil Restoraderm Skin Restoring Body Wash ($14)
California Mango Extreme Cream ($10)
Perlier Honey cream bath (I LOVE this one!) ($35)
3)Once you step out of that shower . . . You have 3 minutes (clinically proven) to lock in moisture before you begin losing it. I love to start with an oil (Josie maran argan oil or Neutrogena oil) and then layer with a heavier lotion on top. (California Mango Body Butter)
4) Now let’s move onto your face.—Consider if maybe you need to lay off of the more aggressive routines; maybe give your skin a 30 day break from the alpha hydroxy acids and retinoids. Again, you have 3 minutes (clinically proven) to lock in moisture to your skin. So immediately after cleansing, apply Genie Dream Cream. I sometimes layer it—Dream Cream—favorite facial oil – Dream Cream.
Then use your Genie H’eye’drator around your eye—it’s even safe to use all around your eye even the periorbital bone (right under your eyebrow). A LITTLE TIP: I also love to use this above my upper lip (between lip and nose). It helps reduce those vertical lip lines from forming or becoming any deeper.
5) AND the final touch . . . Genie Color Correcting Powder—is your skin red, irritated or angry-looking? The malachite extract in this formula is anti-inflammatory, meaning it helps calm your skin, as well as counterbalancing the redness in your skin. Once the Color Correcting powder hits the redness it immediately controls the red look.
